This morning, pod2g added a poll to his blog giving people the right to vote whether an iOS 5.1 jailbreak is released. So far it is leaning toward providing a jailbreak instead of sitting on the exploit. It is about 60/40 minus the few beer chuggers!

Like many of you, I haven’t updated my iPhone 4S or iPad 2 to iOS 5.1 to maintain my untethered jailbreak in iOS 5.0.1 instead. The announcement by @pod2g that an iOS 5.1 jailbreak exploit has been found doesn’t mean you should upgrade yet, this can typically take weeks to months to develop this into a public release.
Be sure to remember that just because all the exploits are found doesn’t mean that a jailbreak exists it’s likely months away from first working at all according to @chpwn.

Jeff at MyJailbreakMovies on YouTube has put together a nice tutorial for jailbreaking the iPhone running iOS 5.1. Check it out if you want to jailbreak on iOS 5.1 or if you accidentally updated to iOS 5.1 and lost your jailbreak.
This tutorial utilizes redsn0w on iOS 5.1 for an untethered jailbreak on A4 or prior devices. Again, this jailbreak is tethered as compared to the iOS 5.0.1 corona jailbreak provided by pod2g. Planning to stick with iOS 5.0.1 on my 1st-gen iPad for now…

According to @JailbreakCon and pod2g have posted on twitter and their blogs that the A5 untethered jailbreak should be ready for the jailbreak community today. So #FridayisA5day!
A tool named Absinthe was developped by the Chronic Dev Team to install the untethered jailbreak on your iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. Also the iPhone Dev Team will release a CLI (command line) tool to help diagnose issues and repair things if it goes wrong.
This is a little scary I know, but the chance you break something is really quite small, since we made lots of tests to verify the process on different devices. But it is the first time we use the backup / restore functions of iTunes to install software, and there are maybe things we are not aware of.
A unified PayPal account was opened so that everyone who worked on the A5 exploits will receive a fair split of your contributions. Here is the link to contribute!
Be sure to donate the A5 jailbreak team a few bones, planning to donate $100 once the jailbreak is made available. These guys have worked hard for the past couple weeks to get the iPhone 4S jailbroken for the first time, the iPad 2 has only had one other jailbreak.
