This link has been setup to ensure that those contributing to the iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak for the new iPad, and pretty much all other recent iOS devices are equally compensated. Just like when you tip the waitress at the restaurant a portion goes to the hostess, bartender or cook.

New iPad Jailbreak With Absinthe V2

Chronic dev team hacker pod2g stated that the iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak for the new iPad will be available in the next couple days.

According to pod2g’s iOS blog, the iOS devices supported (for sure) with the Absinthe 2.0 jailbreak are:

  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPhone 4
  • iPhone 4 CDMA
  • iPhone 4S
  • iPad 1
  • iPad 2 Wifi
  • iPad 2 GSM
  • iPad 2 CDMA
  • iPad 3 Wifi
  • iPad 3 CDMA
  • iPod 3G
  • iPod 4G

Remain to be tested (and should work):

  • iPad 2 Wifi, R2
  • iPad 3 Global
  • AppleTV 2

Devices not supported:

  • AppleTV 3

Redsn0w Updated For iPad Jailbreak

On Sunday, the iPhone Dev Team released a new version of redsn0w (0.9.11b4) which will jailbreak your iPad even if it is running the latest software. The latest version of redsn0w provides many bug fixes to provide a clean jailbreak.

Original iPad Jailbreak

  • Restore to iOS 5.0.1 for untethered jailbreak
  • Remain in iOS 5.1.1 for tethered jailbreak

iPad 2 Jailbreak

  • Restore to iOS 5.0.1 for untethered jailbreak
  • Jailbreak also available in iOS 4.3.3

New iPad Jailbreak

Untethered jailbreak expected to be available within a week, be patient as pod2g and the hackers are working to bring the first jailbreak to the new iPad and it will be untethered.

iOS 5.1.1 Jailbreak For iPad, iPad 2

Late yesterday, pod2g gave us an update on the iOS 5.1.x jailbreak that is expected in the next couple weeks.

According to pod2g’s twitter, both the iPad and iPad 2 are both untethered in iOS 5.1.1. Previously, the new iPad (3rd-generation) has also been tested in iOS 5.1.1. I am still waiting to update my iPhone 4S and iPad 2 to iOS 5.1.1, and will instead remain on my untethered iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak. I am definitely looking forward to getting my new iPad jailbroken!

iOS 5.1.x Jailbreak (New iPad, iPhone 4S)

According to a recent update on pod2g’s blog, the iOS 5.1.x jailbreak for all iOS current iDevices will be available in 2 weeks. It appears that a million bucks won’t change anything. So if you have a new iPad and are waiting for a jailbreak, get updated to iOS 5.1.x as you should have it jailbroken in the next couple weeks.

Here are the iOS 5.1.x jailbreak FAQ from pod2g:

The poll about releasing now or waiting for 6.0 ended with a 64% / 33% to release ASAP. Where is the link ? ETA ? How much % done ? etc.

As I said earlier in twitter, there’s still a lot to do to have a user friendly and well tested tool to install the jailbreak on end users devices. Expect a release in a couple of weeks.

Will it be compatible with my?

It will be compatible with any device running iOS 5.1.1 except iPod 3G, iPhone 3Gs and ATV3 (right now, may change in a near future, nobody knows).

Why is it so slow to release now that the iPad 3,1 has been demoed ?
There are 16 different devices out there to work on and to test. It takes time.

May I be a beta tester?

No, sorry. Only really trusted people (that can be counted on one hand) could have access to the jailbreak. I don’t want any leak to happen.

What if I offer you 1,000,000$?

That doesn’t change a thing

iOS 5.1 Jailbreak Decision

After over 130,000 votes and with only 2 days left on pod2g’s blog poll, it appears that the jailbreak community wants to use available exploits for an iOS 5.1 jailbreak. Given the option to hold off until WWDC 2012 and the probable release of beta version of iOS 6, the community wants to continue developing the latest iOS jailbreak solutions.

Personally, there isn’t much improvement from the currently untethered iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak as compared to an iOS 5.1 jailbreak. I would rather wait for an iOS 6 jailbreak instead of burning the exploits in iOS for a minor update by Apple. The biggest advantage I see is gaining support for the recently launched 3rd generation iPad.

After just over 24 hours of voting, the poll on the blog of @pod2g, it appears that people would much rather have an iOS 5.1 jailbreak instead of getting a leg up on an iOS 6 jailbreak. Here is the results so far from pod2g’s blog:

If you haven’t already, drop a vote if you want the iOS 6 jailbreak instead of something sooner. The iOS 6 jailbreak exploits will likely be available once a beta version of the new iOS is made available at WWDC 2012.
