When i first got my iPad I discovered that the lock switch kept the screen from rotating. But now, when I try to lock it so the screen doesn’t rotate, it just turns off the sound. How can i get it back to the original way?

Answer:

Double click the home button the multi tasking bar will pop up silex your finger to the right at the bottom and click the rotate symbol.

Yes, you must of downloaded the new software update for the iPad, thats why this is happening. The new software update replaces the rotation lock with mute. Luckly, they haven’t got rid of the rotation lock completely, follow the steps bellow to lock the screen orientation
    1. Open your iPad and go to the home screen
    2. Double click the home button, and it should bring up a bar at the bottom of the screen(multitasking bar)
    3. Swipe to the left once, and you should see a brightness controller, orientation lock, previous, pause/play, skip and a few others. If you dont see these, that means you have swiped the wrong way.
    4. Tap the Orientation lock and it will lock the screen

To lock the screen orientation swiping to the left most multitasking screen which will bring up a number of fixed controls. Tap the left most button, which is square with an image of a circular arrow inside it. A padlock will appear in the centre of the button. The screen orientation is now locked and an orientation lock icon appears in the status bar.

To unlock picture orientation just, double-click the Home button and the multitasking interface will pop up. Swipe to the left most multitasking screen and tap the left most button, which is square with an image of a circular arrow inside it and a padlock inside the circle. The padlock will disappear in the centre of the button, and you’re done.
